WEBCAST

Screenr is a web-based screen recorder that allows you to create and share your screencasts on the web. Unlike other screen recorders that require software download, such as Jing, Screenr does not require any installation and it is completely free. It records from your PC or Mac, and it plays on any device with Internet capabilities. Just click on the record button, capture your screen and voice, and share the link. Here's a helpful tutorial on how to use Screenr.

Screencasting tools help students get actively engaged in their learning, by allowing them to create and share their knowledge with others. Personally, screencasts have helped me grasp a better understanding about different topics including Science and Technology. I am a visual learner and therefore screencasts have always been a great way for me to teach myself a topic that maybe I didn't quite understand in lecture. Additionally, it is hard to keep up with all the new technology coming out on a regular basis, so tutorials on how to use different software and online tools are beneficial for all digital citizens.

For the sake of course requirement completion, I created a screencast about Flickr using Screenr. After learning about Copyright law and Creative Commons Flickr has become one of my favourite sites to use so I thought I would share my thoughts on it. However, webcasting is not something I plan on doing in the future since listening to myself weirds me out. I find that my voice sounds totally different than what I think it sounds like and for that reason, webcasting tools will not be added onto the creation section of my PLE. On the other hand, watching screencasts and listening to podcasts I do enjoy doing so I'll be adding webcasting tools such as iTunes and YouTube to my PLE as they've been tools that have expanded my learning.
